National Minimum Wage calculator (UK)

Check your hourly rate against the current National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage for your age, and see what that works out to weekly, monthly, and yearly.

Apprentice rate applies if you're under 19, or 19+ and still in your first year of the apprenticeship — otherwise you get the rate for your age.

How the National Minimum Wage works

The National Minimum Wage is a legal minimum hourly rate that almost all UK workers are entitled to, regardless of the size of the business or how they're paid (hourly, salaried, piece rate, or commission — it's always converted back to an hourly equivalent to check compliance). The rate for workers aged 21 and over is specifically called the National Living Wage; younger workers and apprentices have their own, lower rates.

Rates are reviewed and normally increase every 1 April, on the recommendation of the independent Low Pay Commission. Your rate should update automatically on your next birthday if you move into an older age band, and again on 1 April if the rate itself rises.
