Sumcheck

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 17 August 2026

Sumcheck is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

Sumcheck is an independent website. For data protection purposes, Sumcheck is the data controller for the site. You can reach us at hello@sumcheck.co.uk.

Calculator inputs: kept in your browser only

When you use a calculator, the numbers you enter (salary, debts, property price, and so on) are saved using your browser's local storage, purely so the calculator remembers your figures if you come back later. That data never leaves your device — it isn't sent to our servers, we can't see it, and it isn't linked to you as a person. Clearing your browser's site data removes it completely.

If you use a calculator's "share" link feature, the figures you're sharing are encoded directly in the URL you choose to share — again, nothing is stored on our servers.

Standard technical logs

Like virtually any website, our hosting provider automatically logs basic technical information for security and reliability purposes — things like IP address, browser type, and pages requested. This is standard server-log data, used only to keep the site running and secure, and isn't used to build a profile of you.

Cookies and advertising

Sumcheck is supported by advertising. When advertising is active on the site, our advertising partner (Google AdSense) may set cookies or use similar technology on your device to serve ads and measure their performance — this can include personalised advertising based on your browsing, depending on your consent choices.

Where required (for visitors in the UK and EU), you'll be asked to give or decline consent to non-essential cookies before any are set, via a cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's cookies for this site and revisiting.

Google explains its own data practices for advertising at policies.google.com/technologies/ads, including how to opt out of personalised advertising via Google Ads Settings.

Legal basis for processing

Technical server logs are processed under our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and operational. Any non-essential advertising cookies are set only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to data portability. Since we hold very little personal data in the first place — calculator inputs stay on your device, and technical logs aren't linked to an identifiable person in ordinary use — many of these requests will have a quick answer, but email us at hello@sumcheck.co.uk and we'll help. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Children's privacy

Sumcheck isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, when advertising is switched on for the first time, or if a new calculator introduces new data handling. We'll update the "last updated" date above when we do.
