Council Tax band calculator
Work out your Council Tax from your band and your council's own Band D charge — every council sets its own rate, so this uses the one that actually applies to you.
Find this on your council's website or last year's bill — it varies a lot by council, so there's no single UK-wide figure to assume.

Council Tax bands and their ratios to Band D are set nationally (England and Wales share the same A-H ratios, plus a Band I unique to Wales; Scotland shares England's A-D ratios but raised E-H from April 2017) — but the actual £ Band D charge is set independently by each of the roughly 340 local councils in Great Britain, varying by a factor of 2 or more between areas. This calculator can't know your specific council's rate for you; enter it directly from your bill or council website. Northern Ireland uses a different domestic rates system entirely, not Council Tax bands, and isn't covered here.

How this calculator works
Every property is assigned a Council Tax band based on its value (in England and Scotland, based on 1991 values; in Wales, 2003 values) — and every band charges a fixed ratio of the Band D rate, set nationally, not by your council. What your council does set independently is the actual Band D £ figure itself, which is why two identical houses in different council areas can have very different bills despite being in the same band.
